My background combines education and training in Psychology, Psychonalysis and Family Psychotherapy. The first part of my education took place in the city of Monterrey, Mexico where I studied a BA in Psychology at the Universidad de Monterrey.  After graduation, I continued my schooling in Monterrey at the Instituto de Psicoterapia where I obtained the degreee of Master’s in Psychotherapy for adults while opening my private practice.

I had the great oportunity to move to Washington DC, where I got involved with The Bowen Center for the Study of the Family in Georgetown. This center is dedicated to lead the development of Bowen Systems Theory into a science of human behavior and to assist individuals, families, organizations and communities in addressing major life challenges through the understanding of human relationships and systems. At the Bowen Center, I participated in the Post-Graduate Program for several years and worked consulting with families and individuals. During that same time, I started working at a public school in the area as mental health provider. My job at the school consisted of providing individual and group counseling to adolescents presenting major behavioral problems and becoming an emotional support at school and in their family life.

I got pregnant with my first child in 2011 and made a personal and family decision to stop working and focus on becoming a mother and raising my kids. I believe this was the right decision for me and my family and I am thankful I was able to do it. During this time, however, I have continued my education through different avenues including continuos connection and participtation in online programs with the Bowen Center. I am currently participating in a Spanish speaking study group of Bowen Theory and contributing in the development of the Iberoamerican Institute at The Bowen Center. I am also involved as a Community Advisor in a special project seeking to contribute in the process of family reunification of the families separated at the Mexico-USA border with the Center for the Study of Natural Systems and the Family  in Houston, TX.

 

Mis Antecedentes

 

Mis antecedentes combinan estudios y entrenamiento en Psicología, Psicoanálisis y Terapia Familiar Sistémica. La primera parte de mi formación la llevé a cabo en la ciudad de Monterrey, en la Universidad de Monterrey, donde estudié la carrera de Psicología. Al terminar mi carrera, ingresé al Instituto de Psicoterapia donde completé el programa de Maestría en Psicoterapia Psicoanalítica en Adultos mientras iniciaba con mi práctica clínica.

Tuve la gran oportunidad de mudarme a la ciudad de Washington DC donde  conocí el Centro Bowen para el Estudio de la Familia en Georgetown. Este centro se dedica a ser el líder en el desarrollo de la Teoría Sistémica de Bowen en una ciencia del comportamiento humano y en asistir a individuos, familias, comunidades y organizaciones a enfrentar retos importantes de la vida por medio del entendimiento de las relaciones humanas y los sistemas. En el Centro Bowen participé en el programa de Postgrado por varios años y trabajé consultando familias e individuos. Durante este tiempo, también comencé a trabajar en una escuela pública del área como proveedora de salud mental. Mi trabajo consistía en dar asesoría y apoyo emocional, por medio de sesiones individuales y grupales, a adolescentes que presentaban problemas graves de comportamiento y en ser un soporte emocional en la escuela y para la familia.

Me embaracé de mi primer hijo en el 2011 y tomé la decisión personal y familiar de dejar de trabajar para enfocarme en tener a mis hijos y formar una familia. Considero que esta fue la decisión correcta para mí y mi familia y agradezco la oportunidad de haberlo hecho. Durante este tiempo, he continuado mis estudios y preparación por medio de distintos medios incluyendo una continua conexión con el Centro Bowen y participación de programas a distancia. Actualmente, participo en un grupo de estudio de habla hispana de la Teoría de Bowen y contribuyo en el desarrollo del Instituto Iberoamericano del Bowen Center. También estoy colaborando en un proyecto especial que busca contribuir al proceso de reunificación de las familias separadas en la frontera Mexico-Estados Unidos con el Centro para el Estudio de Sistemas Naturales y la Familia en Houston, TX.
